The price war between Amazon.com and Wall-Mart escalated today as Amazon.com slashed its price on top-10 pre-orders for November to $9 to match Wall-Mart’s already slashed price.
Wal-Mart said the tactic to discount pre-orders of popular books was part of a larger strategy to establish Walmart.com as the biggest and cheapest online retailer.

Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG) announced today that it will be aligning its Deutsch agency with Lowe Worldwide. Deutsch will become the North American hub of the Lowe & Partners global network, assuming management oversight of Lowe operations in North America, including Lowe New York, Lowe Roche Toronto and Lowe Healthcare.

Harley Davidson reported earnings of $0.11 per share missing analyst’s forecasts of $0.21 per share. Sales fell 21% to $1.12 billion.
The company plans to discontinue its Buell product line and sell its MV Agusta unit, essentially exiting the sport bike market. It expects to book $125 million in one-time costs associated with the moves.

Amazon.com’s CraeteSpace announced agreements with several international companies to distribute content in the U.S. using print-on-demand technology.
“Amazon has long provided publishers with a platform to effectively market their foreign language and international books to millions of potential customers,” said Russell Grandinetti, vice president of books, Amazon. “Customers now have access to an even greater selection of works from notable international publishers, with in-stock availability and eligibility for any of our shipping options, through print-on-demand.”
