Comcast is the first major carrier to protest broadband stimulus applications.
David Cohen, Comcast's executive vice president, claims that since the U.S. Broadband stimulus funding program was designated to bring broadband services to areas where service is not available, targeting areas where it already provides service could 'violate eligibility rules.'

Boyd Gaming said today it earned $6.3 million, or 7 cents a share, in the third quarter versus $8.7 million, or 10 cents a share, in the comparable quarter of 2008. Quarterly revenue was $398.2 million, down from $426.5 million.
Modest growth at its riverboat-style casinos in the Midwest and South couldn't offset disappointing numbers in Las Vegas.

Amazon.com today revealed the Holiday Toy List which features innovative search tools that allow customers to quickly narrow and expand search results simultaneously by “bestselling” or “average customer review,” then filter by age, gender, category, price and discount.
“The Holiday Toy List is a helpful tool for parents, friends and family members who are searching for the perfect toys for the kids on their list,” says Sarah Wood, director of the Toy Store for Amazon.com.

Wynn Resorts today reported a drop in third-quarter profit Tuesday as the global economic downturn continued to pinch its operations in both Las Vegas and Macau, though the casino operator still managed to top Wall Street expectations on both the top and bottom lines.
Wynn Resorts said today it earned $34.2 million, or 28 cents a share, in the third quarter period, down from $51.2 million, or 49 cents, in the same quarter of 2008. Revenue for the quarter came in at $773.1 million, up slightly from $769.2 million in the third quarter of 2008 as it got a bounce from the opening of its Encore in Las Vegas late last year.

Under Armour, Inc. today announced third quarter net income increased to $26.2 million in the third quarter of 2009 compared with $25.7 million in the prior year's period. Net revenues increased 16.2% in the third quarter of 2009 to $269.5 million compared with net revenues of $231.9 million in the third quarter of 2008.

Johnson Controls said fiscal fourth quarter net income was $300 million ($0.47 per diluted share), compared with $16 million ($0.03 per diluted share) a year ago. Fiscal 2009 fourth quarter net sales were $7.9 billion, compared with $9.3 billion in the previous year's period.
Company's CEO said the firm "navigated through customer and supplier bankruptcies and deteriorating global economic conditions."

VF Corp., maker of such apparel brands as the North Face, Vans, Wrangler and Lee, said its third quarter net profit fell to $217.9 million, or $1.94 per share, from $233.9 million, or $2.10 per share, a year earlier. Revenue fell 5 percent to $2.1 billion from $2.2 billion a year earlier.
