The daughter of the 85-year-old Columbia, LA woman killed by a falling display rack at the Walmart Supercenter Store in West Monroe, LA has filed a lawsuit against the nation's leading retailer.
Christine Walker Partin of Bossier Parish has filed a petition for damages against Walmart and Walmart Louisiana after a store fixture with holiday towels fell on Margie Collins Walker Davis on November 20. Davis had emergency surgery at St. Francis Medical Center that day and died the following day. The lawsuit states her injuries included multiple brain hemorrhages; a large subdural hematoma; swelling and bruising around her right eye; and linear fracture of the left parietal skull bone.

Verizon (VZ)

The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, has awarded more than $67.5 million this year to more than 17,000 nonprofit organizations throughout the US.
The majority of giving went to organizations that support education, literacy, domestic violence prevention and Internet safety. This year's grants bring to more than $345 million the total funds the Verizon Foundation has awarded since 2005 to support nonprofit organizations.

United Technologies (UTX)

The Department of Defense reported that it gave an approximately $171.1 million contract to a United Technologies division to make and convert 14 airplanes for the United Arab Emirates.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. will work on the UH-60M aircraft project in Stratford, CT. Work is expected to be completed on December 31, 2012.

AT&T (T)

AT&T, with $6.63 billion of debt coming due, may be the biggest beneficiary of the record rally in U.S. corporate bonds in 2009.
Borrowing costs have fallen to almost a five-year low, meaning the Dallas-based phone company and the rest of corporate America with $429 billion of debt maturing are poised to shave $17.4 billion off annual interest expense in 2010, according Moody’s Investors Service and data compiled by Bloomberg.

Procter & Gamble (PG)

Procter & Gamble plans to expand its Art of Shaving retail chain to as many as 140 locations in the United States, up from fewer than 40 today.
The pricey shaving chain, founded in New York in 1996, was acquired by P&G in June to extend the reach of its Gillette shaving brand. The strategy is unlikely to create conflict with traditional retail customers because the Art of Shaving targets a different demographic. Prices of its razor handles, for example, can be as much as $500. Its Web site is offering a sterling silver shaving set for $1,700, reduced from $3,400.

Pfizer announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet completed its review of the Biologics License Application (BLA) for Prevnar 13, (Pneumococcal 13-valent Conjugate Vaccine [Diphtheria CRM197 Protein]), the Company`s candidate 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.
As a result, the review will continue beyond the prescription drug user fee (PDUFA) action date of December 30, 2009.

Pfizer (PFE)

Pfizer announced the discontinuation of A4021016 (also known as ADVIGO 1016), a Phase 3 trial examining the effects of investigational compound figitumumab (CP-751,871) as first-line treatment in patients with advanced non-adenocarcinoma non-small cell lung cancer due to the study meeting predefined boundaries for early termination.
An analysis by an independent Data Safety Monitoring Committee (DSMC) showed that the addition of figitumumab to paclitaxel plus carboplatin would be unlikely to meet the primary endpoint of improving overall survival compared to paclitaxel plus carboplatin alone.

Microsoft (MSFT)

China is a vital market for Microsoft's Web search business, as it chases leaders Baidu Inc and Google in the world's biggest Internet market, the company said.
Since launching its English-language Bing search site in June, Microsoft has been gaining steady share in the United States, with 10.3% in November versus 17.5% for Yahoo and 65.6% for dominant player Google, according to comScore. Microsoft hopes to get off to a similar fast start with its Chinese-language Bing site, which is still in its beta phase following a low-key launch in June.
