ConocoPhillips (COP)

KAROON Gas Australia has confirmed it has struck hydrocarbons at the latest well in its Browse Basin drilling campaign with partner ConocoPhillips.
The news comes two weeks after a person familiar with the drilling campaign told Dow Jones Newswires that the well had penetrated hydrocarbons in similar intervals to those in the successful Poseidon-1 well about 6km away. A large gas pay at Poseidon-2 will provide further evidence that Karoon and ConocoPhillips are sitting on a resource off Western Australia big enough to support a multi-billion-dollar liquefied natural gas development.

Apple (AAPL)

Apple won an appeal over alleged iPod hearing loss when The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco affirmed a 2008 district court ruling that the plaintiffs failed to show that use of the iPod poses an unreasonable risk of noise-induced hearing loss.
It also found that the plaintiffs lacked standing to allege a violation of California's unfair competition law. Jeff Friedman, a Berkeley, California lawyer representing the plaintiffs, did not immediately return a call for comment. David Bernick, who represented Apple, had no immediate comment. An Apple spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Exxon Mobil (XOM)

Exxon Mobil would have to halt some construction activities on a planned C$16.2 billion ($15.4 billion) Canadian pipeline for more than five months every year to protect wildlife, a government-appointed panel said.
The proposed 1,220-kilometer (758-mile) natural-gas pipeline from Canada’s Northwest Territories to a US-bound hub in Alberta would make “a positive contribution,” provided the energy companies backing the project and government regulators agreed to take extra measures to protect birds, grizzly bears, caribou, fish and the water supply, the Joint Review Panel for the Mackenzie Gas Project said today in a report.
